This has been a controversial issue for some time. Many neighbors and Monterey residents proposed that our neighborhood, which has access to a public beach, should have restroom facilities. This was initially spurred by many of our neighbors having complaints about visitors using their yards and other public places as restroom facilities because none were provided. The Tot Lot on Spray Ave continues to have problems with some parents allowing their children to do their business in the bushes, regularly destroying the landscaping and making an unsanitary environment for others. Many long-time residents have asked for a bathroom here as well.

A recent NIP project was approved to conceal the portable toilets at a cost of $16,000. Some neighbors and residents would like to see a permanent bathroom in place, others would like to see toilets completely removed. There are many valid points on both sides.
