The city of Monterey started promoting its “mysidewalk” site today, when it fired off a tweet and asked people to check it out www.monterey.mysidewalk.com.
The site is another in a list of online tools the city is trying out as a way to get feedback from people.
“It’s really about convenience and it’s about connecting with the community,” said Anne McGrath in the communications office at the city of Monterey.
The site allows visitors to rate postings on current city projects and leave their feedback in comment sections. Right now the site is packed with posts and polls on Measure P work, so the city can get an idea what neighbors think about the work being done on their streets.
The city has already embraced social media… with an active presence on facebook and twitter… and they’re hoping mysidewalk get the same level of community interaction….
“We can have tools, we can try to engage people but if people don’t want to engage on that tool then you know it’s not helpful to us,” said McGrath.
McGrath said if people do seem to be engaged on mysidewalk the city will continue to use the site and expand the feedback topics.
